The Whitestone Session

In a mini follow-up to their first album Robots of Evolution, Stereo Reform came back with a four-track EP recorded at Whitestone Studios.

The album features three brand new tracks, plus a re-recording of Robots of Evolution’s “There’s No Time.”

With The Whitestone Session, Stereo Reform is back—but not in the same funkadelic way as on Robots.

Where Robots of Evolution was full of upbeat, grooving tracks, The Whitestone Session has taken things down a notch. Instead of the funk-rock vibe that characterized Robots, Stereo Reform went with a jazzier sound for Whitestone.

The first track, “Til I’m Done,” maintains—and even improves upon—the funk that Stereo Reform threw down on their first album, but “10 Miles Out of NYC” and “Sunday Lover” take a smoother, tamer approach to the band’s music, and it works.

On Robots of Evolution, it felt as though Stereo Reform wasn’t pushing the effort towards funk far enough, but were holding back almost as if they weren’t quite comfortable going all the way with spearheading a funk revolution.

With “10 Miles Out of NYC” and “Sunday Lover,” however, the music flows effortlessly. They pulled off being reminiscent of the 60s funk scene quite well and with that, Stereo Reform really feels like they have entered their element by taking a different turn.

As short as it is, The Whitestone Session is definitely an indication of a promising future and further progression of sound for Stereo Reform.
