Within seconds of beginning "Wtf You Doin In My Mouth", the third track on Tayisha Busay’s debut EP entitled Shock-Woo, I found myself unconsciously tapping my foot to the interesting electronic beat this trio out of Brooklyn, New York is bringing to the music world. Tayisha Busay is anything but conventional and their album title, Shock-Woo, certainly fits the group.
A male component added to a dominating duo of female voices contributes to the unconventional sound that is Tayisha Busay. This trio brings us a fresh mix of electronic, pop, and dance combined with lyrics that some may consider boundary pushing. With lyrics like, “What the f*** you doin’ in my mouth” and “Why do I want it in my mouth”, off of their track "Wtf You Doin In My Mouth" and “Hell no, I don’t wanna look like a cheeto” off of their track "Circles (TB Fireproof Mix)", Tayisha Busay may not be for everyone.
Although they have boundary pushing lyrics, this trio definitely shows ground-breaking potential. With a sound similar to the fusion of Daft Punk, Lady Gaga, and Lilly Allen this is a daring combination I cannot say my ears have had the pleasure of hearing before.
Not only are Tayisha Busay’s lyrics and beats unconventional and fresh, so are the trio themselves. With an album cover boasting bright colors, interesting graphics such as a colorful unicorn, an ice cream cone, and a rainbow, as well as all three members posing in a spontaneous fun way, everything about this group screams bold, fun, and fresh.
One of the things I loved the most about this group is that their music can work for a variety of audiences. Indie fans and electronic/dance fans alike may soon find themselves tapping their feet and bobbing their heads to the fresh beats and fun unconventional lyrics that Tayisha Busay is bringing.
Watch out world, Tayisha Busay is leaping onto the music scene with a fresh new sound that is bound to catch the attention of listeners everywhere. The trio may have said it best themselves in their track “Circles (TB Fireproof Mix)”, “Tayisha Busay, can you dig it”. I can dig Tayisha Busay, can you?
