Red Directors - Wave It In

We start on Sunday and within the span of 10 tracks end on Tuesday. The Red Directors sure do like the days of the week on their album, Wave it In. With a distinctly west coast sounding guitar sound with New York, East Village vocals they are non pretentious indie rock. It’s accessible, pleasing to the ears if you will.
This album is fun. It’s very light and doesn’t drag on and on. It starts right with “After Sunday” and ends on the right note (and the right time) with “142 (on a Tuesday).” It has the right amount of rise and fall. There is nothing good about an album that makes you dance every single song; one does need a water break at some point after all. Red Directors gives you that nice smorgasbord of sounds. You can dance, you can sway with a lighter in your hand and you can just simple chill out and become one with the couch, it’s really whatever you like.
I know, I know, as of late much of what comes out of the indie rock vein has the stigma of sounding all the same but these guys aren’t monotonous. They have one track, “Naked in the Kitchen”. It’s about, well, being naked in the kitchen and frankly getting down to “business”. The song has you wondering why the hell you, yourself, aren’t naked in the kitchen. Like I said, fun. How many bands are rocking out singing about being naked in the kitchen? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
Lead singer and guitarist Trevor Potts has an infectious voice that is bound to get stuck in your head. Not in that "I'm a grown man singing Christina Aguilera" kind of way, but in a good way--meaning you'll actually like this being engrained in your cranium. It has a tremendously poppy appeal while not being anywhere near the bubblegum aisle. Red Directors are a musical pleasure that doesn’t have to be guilty.
Sounds Like: Gaslight Anthem, Jonathan Rice
