Kellianna is an artist with roots in the pagan community. Her music is a blend of mythology, powerful vocals, chanting and primal drumming. She has toured all over the United States. The Ancient Ones is her fifth album.
When I received this album, I was delighted. Kellianna's previous albums have all been a treat, working within the structures of Celtic mythology, chanting and spirit strengthening vocals and rhythms. With the opening track of “Thank You Mother” taking off with acoustic guitar flair and wind instruments to blend with Kelliana’s hypnotic vocals, I knew this album was going to be just as inspiring as some of her past works. The harmonies are done well, and the flow of the music rolls over you, taking you into the realm of the Goddess for a much needed spiritual reprieve.
“Wild Maiden” has a lively pulse that undulates, bringing you into a dance of celebration, no matter how much the world has weighed you down. As the percussion pounds out a chanting rhythm, your soul takes flight. The Maiden takes your hand and you smile your cares away, head thrown back to the beat. Kellianna's vocals seduce you into a peaceful state of mind.
“Witch’s Reel” takes you on a wild ride, widdershins style. Dance around the witch’s fire and embrace the deepest dreams that you dare not speak in the waking world. The sparks fly and you grasp hands, forward and back and sway to the primal beat. Kelliana’s voice carries you on a wave of spiritual respite as the Goddess eases your weary heart. Feel the pulse as the beat of the drums and chanting lead you into a simpler place where spirit reigns and the cares of the world fall away. This piece is one of the most addictive songs on the album. I could play this piece all day long.
Kellianna has a unique style that embraces Celtic and Native American mythology and brings it into a rhythm that evokes sacred space and spiritual peace. I have been a fan of hers for many years and this album is yet another testament to the spirit of myth and magic that she is best known for. If you enjoy wind instruments, primal drumming and journeys into lands of mystery and sacred spaces, you should give this artist a try.
