Willie Nelson The Classic Christmas Album
It seems like Christmas comes earlier and earlier every year, and here at MuzikReview.com it is no different. For my yearly Christmas album review I was fortunate enough to get Willie Nelson’s 2012 release, The Classic Christmas Album. I am not one to throw around the word “classic” too freely, but when it comes to Willie I think it’s fair to say he will always be classic.
This album isn’t really claiming to be a “classic” already (well maybe a little), it’s really just Willie bringing you a collection of mostly traditional holiday tunes like only Willie can, much of which were found on his 1979 album Pretty Paper.
The Classic Christmas Album is comprised of 16 tracks, most of which will be most of which are the extremely familiar holiday staples. One exception is Willie’s rendition of the Louis Armstrong classic “What A Wonderful World’, which isn’t a holiday song at all, but still seems fitting given its message. Another would be a Willie original, “Pretty Paper,” which is a song people should probably hear more of around the holidays.
As to be expected, all of the songs on The Classic Christmas Album have Willie’s signature style and vibe to them. For those of you that love Willie for Willie and wish he was more a part of your holiday - then this is well worth a purchase. For those of you that like your Christmas tunes to be as traditional as possible, I think this is still a pretty good collection. It certainly has some country twang to it, but Willie’s soothing vocals and approach keep your holidays smooth. Willie Nelson’s The Classic Christmas Album let’s you switch the holidays up just that little bit so you don’t listen to all the same versions of your favorite holiday songs, while still listening to pretty much all of those same songs.
