Unmarked Cars Is Our Sonic Bids Emerging Artist of The Week

Unmarked Cars Website

Unmarked Cars began as a collaboration between Justin Hogun and Richie Hayes while in Los Angeles working on a project, though they had known each other for years as bandmates in Oklahoma. Hogun: "Rich and I decided that if we ever ended up in Oklahoma again, we'd put together our own band and find the best chemistry for what we wanted to do musically. When I moved back to OKC I called Rich and played him some demos I'd made. We kind of went into it not knowing what we would sound like or what direction we'd go in. Scotty joined us and we started to develop those songs and then jam for hours writing newer, better material. We had a tougher time finding a singer. We put out ads and held dozens of auditions. It was like american idol complete with the rare good, the oft bad, and the downright ugly. In the meantime, we started gigging as an instrumental three piece rock band. We had a projector and a big screen behind us we stapled together. Those days were an important experience for us as a band because it gave us time to grow together musically. We first heard Courtney sing one night at a karaoke bar. She helped me sing a hilarious version of the B-52's 'Love Shack' and we were all impressed. We invited to her to come audition and soon she was in the band. Since then we have developed our own style in the rock pantheon that doesn't quite sound like anyone else. As the music evolves, so does the live show-- now complete with Tv's, projector and big screen bombarding the audience with crazy visuals for a much more memorable live experience.
